A game against Villarreal's B team less than a year ago was a turning point in Hugo Guillamón's career, and the young defender is targetting the same kind of impressive showing this weekend when the two first teams meet at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
With the VCF Academy featuring in UEFA Youth League and Premier International Cup committments, Guillamón began to lose prominence in VCF Mestalla's league plans. He decided to take the initiative, train hard and keep a cool head so as not to lose confidence, and against Villarreal B he was recalled into the starting lineup to cover for the absence of several players through injury.
Guillamón helped his side to a 0-1 win and a clean sheet, standing out for his individual performance at the back alongside David Castro.
From there, his career got back on track and continued to go from strength to strength. He had only played 107 minutes in ten games, but the showing on November 2nd, 2019 catapulted him into a regular role, eventually leading to a first team call-up.
